Expanded Partnership with TGR BioSciences Broadens Existing AlphaScreen SureFire Technology Platform

BOSTON, MA -- September 19, 2006 -- PerkinElmer, Inc. (NYSE: PKI), a global leader in Health Sciences and Photonics, announced today an expanded long-term supplier and co-marketing agreement that combines PerkinElmer’s versatile AlphaScreen® assay technology with TGR BioSciences’ SureFire™ cellular kinase assay kits. The collaboration combines two highly advanced technologies that permit rapid and accurate screening of previously difficult targets through homogeneous non-radioactive measurement of phosphorylated full length proteins.

“The combination of our highly sensitive AlphaScreen technology with TGR’s SureFire cellular kinase assays will enable researchers to easily screen a number of key modulators of pathway activation in whole cells, which previously has been extremely difficult to accomplish,” said Dr. Richard Eglen, vice president and general manager, Discovery & Research Reagents, for PerkinElmer’s Life and Analytical Sciences division. “The signing of this agreement demonstrates PerkinElmer’s commitment to be a leader in enabling leading edge cell-based applications and tools for the Drug Discovery market.”

The expanded technology platform now includes six additional AlphaScreen SureFire cellular kinase assays, and can be used with many different cell lines, including primary cells, cells over-expressing cloned targets or cells expressing physiologically relevant endogenous levels of kinase or receptor target. These new kits offer novel cost effective methods for primary and secondary screening providing results in a more biologically applicable context.

The AlphaScreen SureFire cellular kinase assays represent key additions to the many applications built on PerkinElmer’s HTS-proven AlphaScreen technology, which is easily scalable to 384- and 1536-well microplate formats. These new assays will complement the existing AlphaScreen SureFire ERK assay kit which has been used successfully to screen for therapeutic modulators of both G-Protein Coupled Receptor (GPCR) and Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (RTK) targets.

“We are already seeing significant interest and adoption of our first SureFire™ kit in the USA and Europe, and we anticipate a similar rapid growth of sales of the new kits”, says Dr. Leanna Read, Managing Director of TGR BioSciences. “The alliance with PerkinElmer on the world market provides both companies with important resources that complement their respective business models.”
