Innovative Technologies Increase Pace and Precision of Biomolecular Research

SEATTLE, WA -- September 19, 2006 -- PerkinElmer, Inc. (NYSE: PKI), a global leader in Health Sciences and Drug Discovery, will be introducing a number of new technologies in lab automation, cellular screening and reagents at the Society for Biomolecular Screening (SBS) 12th Annual Conference and Exhibition in Seattle, Washington, September 17-21 2006, booth #329.

For the first time, PerkinElmer will showcase its new JANUS™ Cellular Workstation, a fully automated liquid handling platform designed for cellular assays. The JANUS Cellular Workstation combines cutting-edge PerkinElmer technologies including reagent chemistries, detection systems, and liquid handling for walk-away automation of medium and high throughput applications. This total system solution approach provides proven, pre-defined application templates and system scheduling with documented results and application guides allowing laboratories to rapidly and easily generate results.

The Company will also unveil the PerkinElmer CS Autoplex Workstation, which uses the latest in automated multiplex technology for assay set-up, sample processing and analysis for high content xMAP technology. All of which delivers reproducibility equivalent to the manual processing of cellular assays. This end-to-end solution utilizes the JANUS™ Automated Workstation and the PerkinElmer CS 1000 Analyzer for complete assay automation, from sample preparation to results generation.

PerkinElmer will also unveil the FlexDrop Plus, the newest version of the popular FlexDrop dispensing system, which has been enhanced to be easier to use and minimize reagents consumption. FlexDrop PLUS continues to deliver superior dispense precision at nanoliter volumes.

In addition, PerkinElmer will introduce advances to its LANCE® assay product line. LANCE® Ultra is a new improved homogenous TRF platform for TR-FRET assays enabling higher sensitivity, speed, and productivity in PerkinElmer’s high-throughput screening assay platform.

“Advances in lab automation, multiplex and reagent technologies, are driving new levels of data collection, and resulting in more accurate, relevant and reproducible leads for new drug candidates,” says Dr. Richard Eglen, vice president and general manager, Discovery and Research Reagents for PerkinElmer’s Life & Analytical Sciences business. “Research is being conducted on an increasingly complex scale, and these technologies will be critical to automating and managing experimental workflows in today’s modern drug discovery labs.”

On Sunday, September 17, PerkinElmer hosted a Technology Workshop: “Functional Assay Solutions for Drug Discovery”, with presentations by PerkinElmer scientists, customers, and key drug discovery opinion leaders. The Workshop is a forum for examining the various approaches to assay development and screening, and will take place from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm in Room 612 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center.

PerkinElmer will host a Tutorial on Monday, September 18 from 8:00 am-8:45 am in room 618. The tutorial, “Improved Productivity & Versatility with Screening Solutions from PerkinElmer,” will feature presentations on PerkinElmer’s LumiLux™ Cellular Screening Platform and the JANUS™ Scaleable and Modular Automated Platforms.

PerkinElmer will showcase the following products at booth #329 throughout the conference:

    • LANCE® Technology — new, enhanced homogenous TR-FRET assay platform for HTS and uHTS.
    • AlphaScreen SureFire™ Cellular Kinase Assays — sensitive, homogenous cellular kinase screening assays.
