Thank you for your interest in Increased Productivity in Drugs of Abuse Analysis.
Description: Techniques for detecting drugs of abuse in biological samples have greatly improved with advances in analytical instrumentation. Bench top GC/MS systems are the instruments of choice for forensic scientists. These instruments are legally defensible in court as they are able to positively identify the presence of drugs in urine and blood samples. Even though mass spectrometry technology is advancing, forensic scientists are still hindered by time consuming extractions that must be performed for specific drugs of abuse.
One fundamental problem encountered is the need for multiple extractions for both identification and quantitation of particular analytes. The PerkinElmer Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) is capable of positive identification as well as quantification of a drug in the same injection though the use of SIFI (Single Ion Monitoring and Full Scan in the Same Run). The result is that only one extraction and one injection using the GC/MS system is necessary. In the past it took multiple extractions and multiple chromatography analyses.
This SIFI technique will be demonstrated along with other optimized techniques using the industry standard GC/MS technology for increasing the productivity in Drugs of Abuse.
