Description: This presentation will introduce the use of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy techniques for the characterization and identification of various materials in forensic analysis. Examples will include paint residues, paint chips, fibers, drugs of abuse and polymers having similar characteristics. A discussion of both high quality and poor quality IR spectra for evidence presentation will be included. FTIR spectrometer validation techniques for auditing purposes will be discussed.
